1. Scope
1.1
This Standard covers full body harnesses intended for use as body supports in personal fall arrest systems and in other work situations that involve the risk of falling.
1.2
This Standard does not stipulate designs for full body harnesses, except insofar as design limitations are necessary to help ensure safe and durable service.
1.3
This Standard does not include harnesses for use by firefighters or for use in recreational situations, such as mountaineering.
1.4
The drop tests described in this Standard can be used to evaluate special accessories that may be employed in conjunction with a full body harness, but the Standard does not cover those special accessories as the accessories can readily be changed from one harness to another. Such accessories include yokes and karabiners.
1.5
Products having materials or forms of construction differing from those contemplated or covered by this Standard shall be considered as complying with the Standard, providing they are substantially equivalent, and meet the specified requirements of this Standard.
